For my first post here at OJ FRESH [BLESSED WITH THE OPPORTUNITY FROM MY GIRL SHAA :) ] you're gonna thank me for breaking you away from all this "Lollipop"-ing, "Bust It Baby", and yooooooooooouu-ing nonsense. Don't get me wrong! I love Weezy as much as the next kid. I can crank dat with the best of em. And I damn sure know what a 'Bust It Baby' is and sing along anyway. BUT it's getting on my nerves how they get played after every other song on the radio or in the club.
Anyway, LOL. If you haven't heard, Nonstop Movie Works is making/made a documentary based on Talib Kweli's career and influence in hip-hop (watch the clip here.) Therefore, it's only fitting that the throwback of the day be one of his bests.
Back in the day, he was 1/2 of Black Star. The other half was Mos Def. Although A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul were pioneers of the genre, by releasing one album back in '98, Black Star's lyrics -along with Common (featured on today's throwback)- brought mainstream America's attention to the underground Afrocentric, jazz-infused hip-hop of New York.
